Christmas 2014Posted on: 8 January 2015 in
Christmas can be a tough time for a lot of people and if you are homeless it can be a particularly lonely time. At YRP we aim to give the clients as 'normal' a Christmas as possible. The shelter remains open all day and when the clients wake up, there are stockings outside their door. Unfortunately, Santa got 'rumbled' this year as he was late out of bed! After a cooked breakfast, staff, clients an volunteers attacked the task of cooking the Christmas dinner. Mountains of sprouts were peeled alongside potatoes and parsnips. Two enormous turkeys were expertly carved by Dean and Grant and whilst it was being cooked, a very competitive game of monopoly commenced. As ever, it lasted for hours and the ultimate winners were Dan and Cath - both of whom seemed to take it very seriously!
Dinner was eaten, more presents were opened and there was an impromptu performance from the YRP Homeless Choir before everyone ran out of energy and relaxed! The day was made even more special by more donations and by our wonderful volunteers Debbie and Linda who joined in with everything. Thank you!
