The Mayor speaks at our open day

We were honoured to have The Mayor of Woking, Cllr Tony Branagon and his wife attended our open day.  He seemed impressed with all that we provide and it was the first time he had visited YRP.  He spoke to the visitors about the importance of helping those in need and how our Fresh Start decorating initiative is inspiring.

The whole day was well supported with visitors from the local community and agency representatives from outside the borough.  The choir performed twice and as ever, were the main attraction with very few dry eyes following their rendition of 'Imagine' with the lyrics re-written by the clients to say 'Imagine you're not homeless'.  Alyssa performed a solo of 'Amazing Grace' - the results being goose bumps on all in the audience!  The buffet lunch was prepared by the clients assisted by Mel - Jose made a delicious lemon cheesecake and Calvin gave guided tours of the accommodation here including his own room.

It is so important that we invite local people in to show them what we do and to alleviate any fears/concerns they have about those experiencing homelessness.  Many people were very surprised at the variety of workshops offered in the Day Centre and were impressed with the clients they spoke to.

If there is anyone who was unable to attend and would like to find out more, please call Amanda McWilliams on 01483 728739 and she will be please to help.
