Sleep Out Success 2017

Sleep Out Success 2017

Posted on: 15 September 2017 in

For the second year running, YRP organised a sleepout to raise vital funds for the project and to raise awareness of homelessness in Woking.  Over 40 people from all walks of life came together to spend the night together with nothing other than a sleeping bag and some cardboard to lie on.

We don't for one second suggest the event is anything like sleeping rough night after night, but this is one small way the community can come together to show they care. For the first time, we welcomed young people to join us and our youngest attendee was 13 years old  it was lovely to have her with us.

The evening started at 8pm with everyone grabbing a suitable spot and YRP clients, past and present, spoke about their experiences of life on the street and how YRP has helped them.  At 10pm, everyone bedded down and tried to get some sleep.  We were again lucky with the weather and the rain stayed away for the whole night.  YRP staff stayed up all night keeping watch and at one point they could be found dancing the Okey Dokey and the conga in an attempt to keep warm.

But the  humour did not detract from the message of the evening.  People are having to sleep rough on the streets of the UK every single night and here at YRP, we do everything we can to defeat homelessness in Woking.  The evening raised over £4000 which will directly help those who need it.

We would like to thank everyone who took part and everyone who kindly donated money.  You show our clients you care.

Sww you next year!
