YRP clients volunteers on Horsell Common

It is important to us all at YRP to feel we are a part of the local community and to give something back when we can and a perfect opportunity presented itself when Caroline Hughes from Horsell common preservation society invited some clients along to help.  The clients enjoyed the day so much, they have already volunteered for a further two days in April.

This is what Graeme (a YRP Client) had to say about his experiences.

‘Today a group of us went to help the Horsell Common Ground Team with the build and maintenance of the woodland area. We broke up into two groups, one group helped out with grass clearance and planting whilst the other group used wheelbarrows and shovels to move wood chippings onto the path. We learnt what the group has been doing and what their continued plans are as well. I shared my thoughts and ideas of how to help and this led to conversations about the opportunity to volunteer over the coming months and at the same time give me the opportunity to get involved in other group activities as well.  Although limited in what I can and cannot do I found the day to be both rewarding and relaxing and I look forward to helping out with the group in the future.

I cannot stress enough the well-being and sense of achievement opportunities like this give and would highly recommend people take the chance to get involved, even if only for one day.  There was a friendly environment, sandwiches, drink and a choccy bar for the lunch break - who really could ask for more? And even the sun came out – all in all it was a very rewarding day.’
