Press Release: 17/03/2020 (Coronavirus COVID-19)
We are pleased to say that currently it is business as usual at York Road Project (YRP) and we are taking the risk Covid19 presents to our client group seriously. We always have hand sanitiser at the entrances of both our day centre (The PROP) and Night Shelter but since the confirmed outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) we have adopted a robust hygiene process in line with recommendations from Public Health England.
Our stringent measures include the educating of our staff, volunteers and clients on the importance of regularly washing their hands for 20 seconds or at a minimum using the hand sanitisers that are provided to them. We have also implemented a strict and more frequent cleaning and disinfecting process in all our buildings to ensure any regularly touched objects and/or surfaces are sanitised. Additionally, we have supplied our clients with pocket tissues to catch coughs and sneezes. We’ve now switched to individually wrapped snacks and biscuits and focused on ensuring we have a step by step process should any of our clients become symptomatic.
During these uncertain times we shall continue the work we do to Defeat Homelessness in Woking and surrounding areas focusing on our clients and their needs whilst recognising they may be more at risk due to underlying health conditions. We are in regular contact with Woking Borough Council, and have a contingency plan in place should the need arise. Following PHE’s latest guidance, any client showing symptoms will be offered accommodation so they can self-isolate and YRP staff and volunteers will provide food, medication and any other necessary item whilst needed.
We’d like to take this time to thank everyone in the community who continue to support us in our work – we could not do all we do without your help. Our clients (particularly those rough sleeping) do not have regular access to hot water and soap and so hand sanitiser is currently our most wanted item followed by toilet tissue, antibacterial wipes, hand cream and snacks. Crisps and biscuits that are individually wrapped are also very useful as clients can take them away with them.
