Our Vision, History and Values
Our work at the forefront of supporting people experiencing homelessness and improving the health and wellbeing is underpinned by our history, vision and values.
York Road Project (“YRP”) is a homelessness charity that supports clients in the borough of Woking and referred clients from a neighbouring borough, Waverley. It was started by a number of passionate individuals from various churches in Woking offering sandwiches and soup to people 'sleeping rough'. From there it developed into a 'winter watch' project supported by Shelter, providing emergency accommodation over the winter months.
In 2001 York Road Project was formed with The Charity Commission as a registered Charity. Since then we have worked with hundreds of people, supporting them to move forward with confidence and independence. We are passionate about the work we do and believe we have a positive impact within our local community. We believe that everyone has the right to have a home of their own and our mission is to end homelessness together.
We believe that everyone has the right to a place they can call home. We want to end homelessness here in Woking by supporting those we work with to rebuild their lives.
Our values are important to us and to the work we do, they are at the very heart of everything we do in our mission to end homelessness together.
Empowerment – ‘We will support people to take control of their lives to make positive changes.’
Inclusion – ‘We will listen and respond to our staff, clients and communities, valuing their diversity and treating everyone with respect’
Belief – ‘We believe that everyone has the ability to make positive changes to their lives.’
